Our Recommendations
Here is a list of specific tools that I have found useful on the farm. While this list is not exhaustive, it is definitely the tools I use most frequently. This list is constantly updating as I trial new tools and methods on my farm.
Spade Shovel
Just a standard long handle shovel will be heavily utilized on the farm.
We use the battery powered drill tilther to mix amendments and organic matter into the top inch of soil when flipping beds.
These attachments are used with the Mutineer to create a versatile selection of hoe heads. I like: the off-set wire, and colinear heads.
The best attachment for your long handle, this hoe head allows you to have one handle but multiple weeding attachments. It's like the Swiss Army knife of weeding.
Wheelbarrow
A heavy-duty wheelbarrow is a must for moving compost and plant debris.
Bed Rake
We use a bed rake to level out the top of a bed before direct seeding. Our rake is just a 30" landscape rake from a box store.
Harvest Totes
We like to harvest into sturdy totes. We use the 27 gallon heavy duty black totes from the big box stores.
Drill & Batteries
Every farm needs a drill. This drill has the ability to run the tilther, greens harvester and help with all the other farm infrastructure tasks. But the real winner here is the extra large batteries!
We use this for weed suppression, prepping new ground, flipping beds, germinating carrots and resting beds.
Sold in a single, double, triple and quad manifold, this is the most flexible timer I've found to accommodate my irrigation needs without having to run electric.
Providing season extension and the ability to more easily control your growing conditions, this simple high tunnel is a great addition to the farm.
