LOCAL: Flowers, Produce,
Eggs & Honey
Our Italian and Carolinian honey bees produce delicious 100% raw honey. We offer both strained and comb honey when seasonally available. In addition to our vegetables and cut flowers, we intentionally plant apple, cherry, and peach trees, a variety of berry bushes as well as a wide assortment of wild flowers and native plants for the bees to forage.
We rotationally graze a small flock of heritage laying hens around the farm. The birds forage on grasses and insects. In addition to their free-range foraging, our flock is fed a certified organic soy-free feed with free choice access to grit and oyster shells. They lay a beautiful variety of egg colors with strong shells and a beautiful orange yolk.
We use no-till, no-spray methods to grow our vegetables. By using these methods, we are preserving the ecology and biology of the soil on our farm and delivering the best food possible to our customers. We grow a variety of vegetables at Red Fern, including but not limited to: lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, zucchini, radish, turnips, carrots, celery, ginger, eggplant, potatoes, basil, parsley, beets, garlic, scallions, spinach, mustard greens, arugula, claytonia, kale, swiss chard, peppers, asparagus, green beans, rhubarb, tatsoi, and more.
Like our produce enterprise, we use a no-till, no-spray method to grow all of our cut flowers. By using these methods we are preserving the ecology and biology of the soil on our farm, protecting the pollinators, and providing you chemical free fresh cut blooms. We build fresh bouquets for market and various stores across the New River Valley. We also build custom bouquets for weddings and events.
